Wilson Scholars 'Step' into Excellence

Students on stage during Wilson High School's YBS Step Show

Wilson High School’s Young Black Scholars (YBS) club recently hosted its second annual YBS Step Show for Bruin students.

The show is held every year in collaboration with African-American fraternities and sororities from the California State University, Long Beach to demonstrate the significance of stepping as an art form and to promote Black history and excellence in Long Beach.

This year’s show also included performances by Wilson’s Bruinettes and Sparks Dance Academy, along with a live dance-off inviting audience members to showcase their moves onstage.

Stepping is a historical and highly energetic form of dance in African-American culture that uses footsteps, claps and spoken word to create complex rhythms and sounds.

Wilson’s YBS club supports African-American students by providing a place for students to be themselves, be supported and build connections. It is one of many clubs available to African-American students at multiple schools in 菠菜网lol正规平台. Visit the 菠菜网lol正规平台 Black Student Groups webpage for more information.
