School Closure Extended Through at Least May 3

Long Beach Unified School District

View in Khmer

The closure of all Long Beach Unified School District Schools will extend through at least May 3 due to the ongoing coronavirus situation. Schools had originally been scheduled to reopen as soon as April 20. Schools may reopen on Monday, May 4, but an additional extension of the closure beyond that date is possible.

菠菜网lol正规平台 leadership made the decision to extend the closure after careful consultation with partnering agencies, including the Los Angeles County Office of Education. The foremost consideration in this decision was the health of everyone in local school communities and beyond.

During this extended closure, local schools will continue to provide meals and home learning opportunities. By the end of the day on Monday, March 23, 菠菜网lol正规平台 will be sending home learning opportunity information to general education and special education students and their families. As mentioned in yesterday’s update, these opportunities are for the period between Monday, March 23 and Thursday, April 9. These lessons and resources have been developed to support students’ continued learning in their grade level and/or coursework through April 9 (the day before our planned April 10 Admission Day holiday and the planned spring break the following week). These home learning opportunities will not be graded.

Also as mentioned in yesterday’s update, starting Monday, March 23, meal service will continue from 8 to 9 a.m. for breakfast and 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for lunch at all schools except Beach/Reid, Browning, CAMS, Lowell, Millikan, Naples, PAAL, Renaissance, Sato and Stanford. Those schools will no longer serve meals during the school closure period.  Starting Tuesday, March 24 the remainder of schools offering meals will transition to one pick-up period, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. During that time, students can receive lunch along with food items for the next day’s breakfast. Students who attend schools that no longer serve meals can still receive meals at their nearest school. Find a map of 菠菜网lol正规平台 schools here or at cleointhecity.com under ABOUT > Map.

If you need a Chromebook, devices will be available starting on Wednesday, March 25. Schools also can provide information about gaining access to the internet at home, for families that still need access. More specific information will be available next week. Home learning materials also will be provided in paper form to families as needed starting Tuesday, March 24.
